The smartphone market is heading for its worst year ever

The smartphone market is heading for its worst year ever.
IDC expects global smartphone shipments to plunge 16.7% in 2026 to just over 1 billion units - the steepest annual decline on record.
And the reason? The memory crisis. 📉
• DRAM & NAND costs: +300%+ YoY
• Average smartphone price: $581, +27.6%
• Sub-$100 phones are disappearing
• Android shipments: -24.3%
• iOS share rises to a record 23.6%
• Foldables are the only segment still growing: +12.6%
Ironically, the smartphone market is shrinking while its total value is rising to $613B.
